Picking lists

Gather the material a job needs from the shelves and stage it where the work happens, one line at a time.

A picking list tells someone which items to pull from which storage units and where to set them down for a job, for example the fittings and regulators for a tank set. Picking moves the stock next to the work; it does not use it up.

A picking list is always made from the operations of a job. AimRack has no page that creates jobs today, so this area only has work in it when jobs reach the company some other way.

How to make a picking list when a job's material needs gathering

  1. Open Inventory, then Picking Lists, and choose the Location, for example Nelson Propane · Corsicana.
  2. Choose Cards to see the job operations at that location whose material is not staged yet. When there are none, the page says "No operations require picking at this location".
  3. Select the operations to pick for, then choose Generate Picking List. AimRack writes one line per item, choosing the storage unit to pick from, earliest expiry first for items that expire.
  4. Use Settings to choose what each card shows: Status, Due Date, Duration, Progress, Customer, Sales Order, Description, Quantity and the rest.

View Lists switches to the table of lists, with Picking List ID, Location, Status, Assignee, Due Date, Progress and Created.

How to pick when you are walking the shelves

  1. Open the list and choose Start. The list becomes In Progress.
  2. For each line, choose Pick once the item is in hand. The stock moves to the storage unit beside the work center where the job runs.
  3. For a serial or batch tracked item, choose Scan, then Choose a serial number or Choose a batch number. Tracked items are only picked this way, so the right unit is recorded.
  4. When a line was picked by mistake, choose Unpick to put it back.
  5. When the shelf held less than the line asked for, choose Short. The Short pick dialog asks How many were actually picked?; enter the Picked quantity and choose Mark Short.

A line shows No stock when no stock of the item is on record at the plant. You can still pick it, and on hand goes below zero until a count fixes it. Returned with a quantity shows unused picked material sent back from the work center to its shelf.

How to finish a list when the picking is done

  1. Choose Finish. When every line is picked and none was marked short, the list becomes Completed; otherwise it becomes Partial.
  2. When some material is still unpicked, the Finish with material unpicked? dialog lists it and explains that finishing now marks the list Partial. Choose Acknowledge & finish to accept that, or Keep picking to go back.

A Completed or Cancelled list is locked. Reopen unlocks it, which needs the inventory delete permission because the picks already moved stock.

Where this fits

Picking moves stock between storage units within one plant, like a stock transfer, and every pick shows in Inventory under Movements. Tracked units picked here can be followed in Traceability.
